‘Canada’s Got Talent’ Season 3 Premieres with Two Golden Buzzers
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Canada’s Got Talent Season 3 premiered on Citytv Tuesday night, as the judges hit the Golden Buzzer for not one but two acts during the show. This season’s prize is $1 million, courtesy of Rogers, so there’s a lot at stake for the contestants.
Rollerskating Couple Earns Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer
The first Golden Buzzer from Tuesday’s new show went to Mat & Mym, an engaged couple who does acrobatic rollerskating. Judge Howie Mandel suggested that if they win the million-dollar prize, they should get married in the finale.
For their audition, Mat & Mym performed on a raised platform, showing off some fast spins. At one point, Mat balanced Mym on his head as he spun around. Things got really crazy when he connected her hair to his neck and spun her without holding on.
The judges were blown away by the performance, and the audience encouraged them to push the Golden Buzzer. Kardinal Offishall did the honors, telling them, “I really feel like M & M is going to be the next biggest to come out of Canada’s Got Talent for the million-dollar season!”
Not only are Mat & Mym going straight to the next round, but they also won $25,000, courtesy of CIBC, as part of this season’s new format. All the Golden Buzzer recipients will receive a cash prize even if they don’t win the million dollars.
Trish Stratus Hits Golden Buzzer for Funny Comedian
Later in the show, comedian Sterling V. Scott took the stage to share a set about the prejudice he’s experienced as a Black comic in Canada. He jokingly expressed solidarity with redheaded people, ending the set by saying that “orange is the new black.”
Sterling got emotional as he shouted out his mother in the audience. The judges praised his performance, with Trish Stratus telling him, “You actually answered our dreams, and if I can be the facilitator of your dreams, I will help you, sir. ‘Cause you deserve it.”
She then hit the Golden Buzzer to send Sterling straight through and give him the $25,000 prize. The comedian appeared overwhelmed by the gesture, kneeling down on the stage as gold confetti rained down on him.

Singer Brings the Judges to Their Feet with Queen Cover
Tuesday’s premiere also featured an audition from singer Matthew Cooper, who got emotional as shared that he’s 40 percent deaf in both of his ears. He explained that he learned to sing without his hearing aids, which he wasn’t wearing for the performance.
Matthew went on to perform an operatic cover of “Who Wants to Live Forever” by Queen, showing off an incredible voice that stunned the judges. They gave Matthew a standing ovation for his performance. He didn’t receive the Golden Buzzer, but he did get plenty of praise from the panel.
Offishall told him that he “gave everything you got,” while Stratus said he has “so much talent.” All four judges voted yes to sending Matthew through to the next round. Matthew was clearly emotional as he walked off the stage.
