Blake Shelton: the King of ‘The Voice’ For All 21 Seasons
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice coach Blake Shelton was a multi-platinum singer that had already released six albums before he joined the singing competition in 2011. His Red River Blue album shot to number one on the Billboard charts that same year. Before you knew it, the country singer was everywhere. Shelton went on to be the winning coach for Season 2 through 4 of The Voice. After 21 seasons, Shelton has helped aspiring singers win the championship eight times. Shelton is the longest-running coach in the show’s history with no signs of slowing down.
The purpose of the coaches is to mentor hopeful contestants and help them on their music journey. Somehow Shelton has become the one to beat as many of the judges want to beat him at his own game. It is not that Shelton always picks the best singer. He has figured out what the viewers want. With all of his wins, the “Body Language” singer has a distinct sound he is looking for.
Maybe it is the audience reaction that helps Shelton decide if he should turn his chair around, but the singer has perfected his craft in knowing who he should pick. Each season we watch as our coaches battle it out over great singers. I am sure many of the contestants who find themselves being able to pick from multiple judges already have in mind who they would like to work with.
Still, there are moments that we see a contestant thinking on the spot which coach would be the best fit. This is when we see a cool, calm, and collected Shelton put his negotiation skills to good use. It is always good to have multiple wins to convince a contestant to choose him.
King of ‘The Voice’
Shelton is the self-proclaimed king of The Voice. Just when audiences think they have him figured out the singer throws us for a loop. It is easy to dismiss Shelton’s wins as most viewers just enjoy the country artists he picks. Popular country artists such as Cassadee Pope, Craig Wayne Boyd, and Todd Tilghman all won their seasons under Team Blake.
Viewers loving country music is a given, but Shelton proved that he has a deep understanding of what voters wanted in a champion when he won Season 13 of The Voice with singer Chloe Kohanski. The popular singer was the complete opposite from other Team Blake winners in the past.
Chloe was a rock singer with a pop star twist. What made Shelton’s win even more impressive was that he stole the aspiring singer from Team Miley when coach Miley Cyrus eliminated her. Shelton’s Season 13 win showed that the “Come Back as a Country Boy” singer truly is the king of The Voice.
