‘American Idol’ Winner Maddie Poppe Announces New Single ‘SOS I’m in Love’

American Idol Season 16 winner Maddie Poppe recently took to social media to announce the upcoming release of her new single “SOS I’m in Love.” Poppe wrote that the new track is “based on true events.”
Maddie Poppe Announces New Single ‘SOS I’m in Love’
On Monday, Poppe shared a cover image for her new single on Instagram. It shows the singer against a green background, wearing a sparkly top and gold hoop earrings. She puts her hand close to the camera and smiles.
“Based on true events. Coming this Friday,” Poppe wrote in the post’s caption, teasing the song’s official release on September 1.
Last month, Poppe revealed that she’s in a new relationship with fellow musician Gabe Burdulis, having broken up with American Idol runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson. In the comments of her single announcement, Burdulis wrote, “wow an amazing song AND a freaking cute cover???”
Poppe responded by writing, “think I owe you royalties for 100% inspiration on this one.” The singer recently performed the new track live in her home state of Iowa, telling the crowd that it was “inspired by a very weird and very true story.”

Is Poppe Releasing an Album Soon?
Poppe has been on a roll releasing new singles since last year, starting with “One That Got Away.” She’s also released “Peace of Mind,” “Screw You a Little Bit,” and “Good Enough to Let You Go.” In June, Poppe teased that she would be releasing three new songs in the coming months.
With so many singles out, you might be wondering if Poppe plans to release a new album soon. After all, her last full-length project, Whirlwind, came out in 2019. She might have teased these plans back in March when “Screw You a Little Bit” was released.
Poppe shared that the song was written on “the first day of the start of a really really special project.” Hopefully this means a new album isn’t too far off.
