Here is the official announcement from the show’s Instagram: They say good things come in threes! These icons are ready for the best season yet!

While there was some speculation that Katy Perry was demanding too much money for season three, those rumors have now been squashed. Or at least, ABC was willing to compromise with the pop star. And honestly, that is a great thing! The dynamic between Katy, Lionel, and Luke is a driving force for the show. Plus, you can tell they all truly care about the contestants and want the best for them. What else do you need from a talent show judge?

After Laine Hardy beat Alejandro Aranda at the Season two finale, People reported that the judges were asked what it would take to bring them back as judges on American Idol Season 3. Both Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan seemed to suggest that they wouldn’t do another season without the same judging panel, that includes Katy Perry.

Fan Reactions

Fans were obviously excited about the news too (us included, of course)! Here are some of the initial reactions from Twitter.

What About Ryan Seacrest?

Though Ryan Seacrest has been hosting American Idol since season one, his name was left out of the news today. According to Deadline, ABC is still in talks with Ryan, hoping to ink a deal soon. But that being said, he has not closed one yet.

I can’t even imagine what a season of Idol would be without the beloved host! Ryan Seacrest is a staple on the show. We have to hear him say “This…is American Idol!” for as long as its on the air. And I, for one, would not want to see Bobby Bones take over, though he has been filling in from time to time. Ryan just has this energy and professionalism about him that can’t be matched.

American Idol will return for its third season on ABC in early 2020.
