‘AGT’ Star Ben Lapidus Releases Music Video for New Song ‘Better Angels’

America’s Got Talent Season 17 contestant Ben Lapidus is moving on from parmesan and going country. The singer recently released the song “Better Angels,” and now there’s a funny new music video to go along with the track.
Ben Lapidus Releases ‘Better Angels’ Music Video
At first, you might think “Better Angels” is a comedy song like some of the other music Lapidus has released. Lapidus does put on a country accent for the track, but the lyrics are actually pretty sincere.
“So will you have this last dance? / I wouldn’t want it with anyone but you,” Lapidus sings on the track at one point. “Will you give me this last chance, darling / To say I’m so glad I met you / And I’ll never forget you.”
Meanwhile, the new music video further plays with our expectations by taking a more comedic approach. The clip, which features the song’s lyrics on the screen, details the singer’s relationship with a blow-up doll. They go from arguing in the kitchen to enjoying a romantic dinner together and dancing in a field. You won’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“He introduced himself as a serious singer-songwriter only to pour his heart out about cheese,” reads a statement about Lapidus’ new song. “Now that he’s known as a musical comedian, he’s doing the inverse, subverting expectations once again by releasing a song that upon first glance seems like a joke but is entirely sincere.”

This Is the Singer’s Second New Single of 2023
“Better Angels” isn’t the first new single Lapidus has released this year. In January, he debuted a song called “Less Happy More Free.” The pop punk track is an earnest account of where he is in his life, singing, “I realize now it’s possible / To be less happy and more free.”
These new tracks definitely take a more serious approach than “Parmesan Cheese,” although plenty of people loved that song’s humor. Lapidus made it all the way to the AGT Semifinals thanks to his initial performance. Unfortunately, his hard rock remix didn’t earn enough votes to go to the Finals.
