Meet Ben Lapidus, the ‘AGT’ Singer Who Loves Parmesan Cheese

During Tuesday’s Season 17 premiere of America’s Got Talent, Ben Lapidus won over the audience with his song about parmesan cheese. He actually managed to go from four red buzzers to three “yes” votes.
AGT Singer Ben Lapidus Always Wants More Parmesan
On the show, Ben introduced himself as a 29-year-old singer/songwriter from Pennsylvania. He said he picked up a ukulele as a kid and started experimenting with music. Ben shared that his father passed away when he was 6 years old and he started writing and recording songs to cope.
Ben has a BFA from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU Tisch. He told the judges that he works as a sound designer for narrative podcasts. This singer even nominated for a Webby for his work on the podcast Gay Future. On top of that, he also created the podcast Who Killed Avril Lavigne? and wrote and starred in the musical Pop Punk High.
The singer posts funny songs on his social media, including TikTok, where he has over 80,000 followers. His songs are about everything from lighting candles after using the bathroom to buying salmon at the grocery store.

On Tuesday night’s AGT premiere, Ben performed a song about always wanting more parmesan cheese at the Italian restaurant, but being embarrassed to ask for it. After receiving four red buzzers, the audience cheered for an encore and Ben managed to earn himself three “yes” votes from the judges.
Judge Simon Cowell even posted several funny tweets related to the song afterward. He called it the “BEST WORST Song of the Season.” Cowell also wrote that “this song is now stuck in my brain and will probably never leave.”

It’s part of Ben’s newly released EP Grad School, which also features the title track and a song called “Call Your Mom.” The singer also has other singles on Spotify, including “Never Mine to Lose” and “Everything Might Change.”
