What You May Not Know About ‘The Voice’ Winner Chloe Kohanski

Season 13 The Voice winner Chloe Kohanski was a 23 year old aspiring singer who had dreams of bringing classic rock to pop music. For her blind audition, Chloe sang “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac. The singer had an old school rock sound that touched on viewer’s nostalgia. Chloe’s time on The Voice was a rollercoaster, but ultimately she walked away as the winner. Here’s what you should know about the Team Miley rocker.
Before ‘The Voice’
Chloe was a singer in a blues band. Cumberland Blue was formed in the fall of 2012 when a group of young blues musicians decided to start something new based on their love for the deep roots of blues music.
She Dropped Out of School
Chloe studied to become an English teacher. She later decided to go after her dream of becoming a professional musician. Kohanski dropped out of school before her early beginnings of playing various small venues to build up her reputation.
She Was Invited to Join ‘The Voice’
Fans often wonder how contestants are able to audition for The Voice. We have seen many hopefuls who were already popular on social media tryout for the championship. Some singers had already put out albums and some singers at one point had record deals. For Chloe, performing at small venues paid off. An attendee saw one of her performances and invited her to join the singing competition show.
Team Miley
After performing “The Chain” judges Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, and Jennifer Hudson all turned their chairs around in hopes of Chloe joining their team. After each of the judges tried their best to persuade the singer, Chloe said she was “Obsessed” with Cyrus and decided to join her team.
Miley Cyrus Eliminated Her
After joining Team Miley, Cyrus eliminated Chloe from the competition after The Knockouts. During the episode Kohanski went up against fellow contestant Ashland Craft. The singer performed Stevie Nicks’s “Landslide.” Cyrus wanted a country singer on her team at the time and went on to choose Ashland over Kohanski.
Second Chances
It did not take long for Shelton and Hudson to both use their steals in order to have Chloe join their team. The singer decided to join Team Blake, which saw her dominate the competition under his mentorship. By the end of Season 13, Kohanski gave Shelton his sixth win as a Voice coach.
iTunes Success
It is hard to believe that Cyrus eliminated Chloe after her rendition of “Landslide.” The cover actually set The Voice iTunes record for highest charting performance from the Knockout round. Kohanski Top 12 performance of Dido‘s “Thank You” landed at No. 17 on iTunes. Her cover of Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is,” hit No. 1 on the chart as well.
New Name, New Music
Chloe changed her stage name In 2019 to Chloe MK and went on tour with artist Sizzy Rocket. She also started putting out new music, starting with the single “To Be Young.” The same year, she put out an EP titled Fantasy. She now considers her music internet pop.
