Reba McEntire Remembers Late Stepson Brandon Blackstock on ‘The Voice’

Reba McEntire spoke about her late stepson Brandon Blackstock during Monday’s new episode of The Voice. After her artist Aubrey Nicole performed in the Knockouts, McEntire opened up about Blackstock’s cancer battle.
Reba McEntire Remembers Brandon Blackstock on The Voice
During Monday’s Knockouts, Team Reba artist Aubrey Nicole performed “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” by Martina McBride. The song is about supporting a loved one through illness. According to NBC Insider, Aubrey’s performance paid tribute to her father, who is now in remission after battling cancer.
Reba McEntire got emotional after Aubrey’s performance, accepting a tissue from fellow coach Snoop Dogg to dry her tears as she explained, “Martina’s a good friend of mine. I lost my oldest son because he did not win with cancer.”
The singer’s stepson Brandon Blackstock passed away in August of this year, at age 48. Blackstock was formerly married to singer Kelly Clarkson, with whom he shared two children. McEntire was previously married to Blackstock’s father Narvel.
“That was a real reminder that life goes on, and we sing songs about it so we can remember the ones around us that we love so much, that we lean on at times like this. You did a great job,” McEntire told Aubrey before choosing her as the Knockout winner.

McEntire Said Blackstock Is ‘Truly Missed’
Following Blackstock’s death in August, Reba McEntire posted a tribute to her stepson on social media, writing, “There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family.”
In a recent interview with People magazine, McEntire spoke about Blackstock, calling their relationship “precious.” She explained, “I absolutely loved that child. He came into my life, I guess he was 4 years old. Then when Narvel and I got married, he was 13, 14.”
McEntire said she “helped raise him” alongside his parents, in addition to her other stepchildren Shawna and Chassidy. The singer also shares a son named Shelby with her ex-husband Narvel Blackstock. As she told People of her stepchildren, “They were my kids.”
“Brandon is sorely missed, truly missed with his mischievousness and his love of life,” McEntire shared. “He brought joy to everybody that met him, and we’ll never forget him.”
