‘The Voice’s Kelly Clarkson Offers ‘American Idol’ Winner Maddie Poppe Some Advice
Reading Time: 2 minutes
We cover all of these talent competition shows and the person who is always held up as an example of the success one of these shows can garner is Kelly Clarkson. She famously won the first season of American Idol way back in 2002 and went on to have a great career. Now, as a judge on The Voice, she still looks back fondly on the show that launched her career. She met American Idol winner Maddie Poppe and has some advice for her.
If I were Maddie, I would listen. Kelly was once literally where she is now. A young girl that came from a small town that is suddenly thrust into the spotlight. Though Maddie seems like a really together young woman, this industry can turn you into sausage meat. Maddie and The Voice Winner Brynn Cartelli at the Radio Disney Music Awards that were honoring Kelly. That’s where they met. So, Kelly advises,
“I know it sounds cheesy, but if you are not happy doing what you’re doing … don’t do it. Everything is important; everybody will say their thing is the most important and at some point you don’t have time for all those ‘importants.’ You have to pick or you’ll run yourself ragged. Happiness and enjoying what you’re doing is the foremost. Really make sure you’re surrounding yourself with a good crop of people. It doesn’t matter if it’s this industry or you’re, like, a teacher. Whatever your vocation is — find people that make you a better human and are good humans.”
See, just because Kelly is on a different show now doesn’t mean there can’t be love in the talent competition show community. I like to think that we at Talent Recap are the glue that holds it all together.
