‘The Voice’ Winner Brynn Cartelli Discusses Working With Kelly Clarkson

We knew pretty much from the start that winner Brynn Cartelli would probably become the youngest champ in The Voice history. Thus it was. It was also clear when the chairs turned after her audition that she was going to pick Kelly Clarkson. Brynn is so young that she’s never lived in a world where Kelly wasn’t an icon and hero to singers like her. But what was working with Kelly really like and how did she help her win?
Kelly said from the start that she was going to win with Brynn, and more importantly, beat Blake. When we talked to Brynn she said that Kelly was the best cheerleader she could have had. It’s easy to see that. Kelly is like all the high energy cheerleaders I knew back in Texas. Brynn said this to Rolling Stone when asked about what Kelly taught her,
“Just to have fun with it. Take my moments to remember and live in the normalcy of life. It’s really crazy; it’s been crazy already, and I know it will get crazier. But it’s going to simmer down at some point. But I need to enjoy it and soak it up while it lasts because you never know what’s going to happen. I want it to be a long career; I really do. I’m going to work really hard at that, and I know Kelly will help me. But she’s really good at reminding me to remember the normal things in life and to live in those. I already am missing it! I’m missing a lot of things.”
Then they asked Brynn if she thought that Kelly’s previous experience as a talent show contestant helped her coach Brynn. She said,
“Oh my God, yes. She had all these ideas: This is what you’re going to feel like in this moment, but this is what you can do. It really helped me. She knows exactly what it feels like. The other coaches may think [they know], because they’ve been there longer, but she literally knows what it’s like to be standing on that stage and be judged by millions of people when you’re just trying to sing and enjoy yourself.”
All I know is that Kelly killed it as a coach and Brynn got a well-deserved victory. Can Kelly beat Blake again next year? We shall see.
