Winner of The Voice, Cam Anthony, lit up the stage with his Independence Day performance. The season 20 victor headlined the 2021 Wawa Welcome America July 4th concert on NBC 10 Philadelphia. The Philly native returned to his hometown to deliver a soulful rendition of “Stand Up.” Accompanied by The Philly POPS and the Mother Bethel A.M.E Church choir, his performance was one to watch.
Anthony grew up in North Philadelphia, and turned to music to escape from the violence and crime in his city. He took control of his musical ability at a young age, and perfected his talents in church choir. At age 11, a video of Anthony singing Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” went viral. That one video led to an invitation to open for Patti LaBelle, sing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and even perform at the White House.
Anthony was signed by Dr. Dre at 12 years old and spent his early teens recording music. With his contract coming to an end, he decided to take control of his career by auditioning for The Voice.
Cam Anthony On Team Blake
Anthony took to Team Blake this past season, an unlikely, but harmonious pairing. On his comeback to Ellen after seven years, the rising star commented on the atmosphere his coach, Blake Shelton, set on the show.
“He creates this chill vibe that I really appreciate, Anthony tells DeGeneres, and I feel like I needed that through this process. And so working with Blake just gave me the opportunity and said go have fun, explore, and I just really am really grateful for that,” he said.
Anthony’s 4th of July performance at the Mann Center was not his only display of powerhouse talent. His Performance of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” in the Top 17 live show, brought the house down. So much so, that he had to do it one more time on his reunion with Ellen. The undeniable talent of Cam Anthony awarded Shelton his eighth win as a coach on this hit series. I think we can all agree that Anthony was definitely worthy of his win as well.
Who knows what’s in store for such a talented young musician. Future collaborations? He did tell DeGeneres that he’d love to star in The Wiz, and honestly, I think that would be a perfect fit for him. What comes next for Cam Anthony can’t come fast enough, and I will be patiently awaiting his next move.
