The Voice has released a new throwback video showing longtime coach Blake Shelton all the way back in Season 1. The clip also features comments from his fellow coaches. Shelton is leaving the show after the current season.
The Voice Shares Blake Shelton Throwback Video
The new video starts with Shelton’s first interview about the show back in Season 1, which aired in 2011. When asked to explain what The Voice is about, Shelton responds, “It has to start with a great voice.” The video then shows some of the earliest artists on Team Blake.
“I think it’s impossible to think of The Voice and not think of Blake Shelton,” fellow coach Kelly Clarkson says at one point in the clip. “People are like bugs to a light. They’re just, like, really attracted to him.”
The video also shows some sweet moments between Shelton and his artists from over the years. In a clip from Season 1, he can be seen telling Dia Frampton, “You’re family to me now. And I love you.” In another heartfelt moment, Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope says Shelton is “like a crazy uncle that’s always looking out for me.”

Shelton Is Leaving the Show This Season
“I feel beyond lucky to have been able to call The Voice my home for the past 12 years,” Shelton says in the video. “I’ve crossed paths with an amazing group of coaches. I even met my wife [Gwen Stefani] on this show.”
Shelton announced last year that Season 23 would be his final time sitting in that spinning red chair as a coach on The Voice. The country singer is the only coach to have appeared on every season of the show since it began.
The star revealed in an interview this year that he almost left the show even earlier, but the Covid-19 pandemic kept him around, explaining that he “didn’t want to walk away from the show and leave everybody in a bind.”
