It takes extreme confidence to sing a coach’s own song on The Voice especially during the Blind auditions — but Cruize Karaitiana is built differently. The Queensland native belted out a Rita Ora original, “Carry On,” shocking the coach upon hearing him sing.
Rita Ora Surprised to Hear Her Own Song During The Voice Australia Blind Audition
Wearing a pink denim jacket and black trousers, Cruize stepped on stage with a silent but strong spirit. Performing Kygo and Ora’s single, his poise resonated with the song’s notes.
When he belted out the first line, Ora was startled, shocked that she was hearing her own song. Eventually though, the “Don’t Think Twice” singer showed nods of approval for the 32-year-old’s rendition.
Judge Jessica Mauboy was quickly convinced by the Cruize’s vocals and pressed her button. Ora, on the other hand, took a while to turn her chair, waiting for the contestant to hit a desired note.
She Thanks Him for Singing “Carry On”
By the end of his performance, Ora gave her a standing ovation. The singer then proceeded to express her thoughts about the music cover.
“I’m speechless. That song is actually a really personal song for me,” she said. “It’s actually a really sad song, it’s about missing somebody, then we turned it into a huge dance record. But the point of that is, you kind of really brought it back to its purpose, so thank you.”
The contestant sent the gratitude back, saying that “Carry On” helped him remember his late sister. According to him, the song always reminds him to keep living and keep his family in mind whenever he performs.
“That’s what music is about,” Oras said. “I’m happy that I was able to help you in any way.”
As expected, Cruize ended up choosing Ora to be her coach. The Voice Australia is premiering this season on Seven Network.
