Last month, country duo Dan + Shay were announced as the first coaching pair on the American version of The Voice. During an appearance on Today, fans got the first look at the duo’s double spinning chair, which features only one button.

Dan + Shay Preview New Coach Chair on The Voice

Dan + Shay will appear as coaches on Season 25 of The Voice, set to debut in the spring of next year. They’ll appear on the coaching panel alongside John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and Reba McEntire. This is the first time the American version of the show has featured a double chair.

The duo got their first glimpse of that chair during an appearance on Today this month. The show shared a photo of their spinning red chair, which features two connected seats and one button that they’ll hit when they want to turn around for an artist in the Blind Auditions.

As Al Roker pointed out, this means that they’ll have to agree on whether to hit the button. Dan Smyers said it would make for “an interesting dynamic.” He also said that it was the first time they had ever seen their chair.

Filming for Season 25 of the show began last week, even though there’s entire season set to air before it. Season 24 will feature returning coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Niall Horan, alongside Reba McEntire.

The Duo Is Releasing a New Album

Dan + Shay is set to release their fifth studio album, titled Bigger Houses, on September 15. The pair has already released three singles from the album — “Save Me the Trouble,” “Bigger Houses”, and “Heartbreak on the Map.”

The duo recently revealed that they almost broke up after finishing their 2021 tour. They made the revelation in a YouTube video called “The Drive.” Smyers said he was in “the lowest low of my entire life” and was ready to quit music.

“I could feel the separation, and I think there was little things between you and I that we never talked about,” Shay Mooney said of the experience. He added that they “didn’t ever take time to appreciate winning a Grammy or all these things because it was just happening so fast.”

The duo didn’t speak for four months, but in March 2022 they talked about things and got to a better place. As Mooney said, “It was us saying to each other, like, ‘Look, I’m willing to fight for this.'”
