The Real Reason Tyra Banks Isn’t Returning to ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Dancing With The Stars co-host Tyra Banks has officially teased her departure from the series, after three years in the position. We did all the digging, so you don’t have to. Here’s everything to know about her reported departure from the series.
Why She’s Leaving The Ballroom
In March 17, Tyra Banks admitted that she’s ready to say goodbye to the Dancing With The Stars ballroom. Apparently, the supermodel’s focus has recently shifted on to her personal businesses.
“I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and entrepreneurship, but also producing more TV but behind the scenes,” she told TMZ. “So, you know what? I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor.”
For those who may not know, Banks has a personal brand, SMiZE & Dream, where she sells “The World’s Most Dreamy” ice cream. After 15 years of preparation, she launched this brand in 2020. Since the launch came around the time Banks joined the cast of Dancing With The Stars, it’s no surprise that the model wants to take time to focus on it.
“I think my heart, my soul is into my business, it’s also into producing new TV,” she continued. “I really, really wanna focus on my business and you can’t do that hosting a show, so you’ll see me creating things, not just hosting.”
Her Time Hosting Dancing With The Stars
Banks’s timeline on Dancing With The Stars has been met with loads of criticism. She was far from a fan favorite host, since she came in to replace the show’s inaugural host, Tom Bergeron. Since DWTS fans adored Bergeron and his former co-host Erin Andrews, many were upset to hear of their abrupt departure.
Reportedly, producers of DWTS brought in Banks to revive the show and cater toward a younger audience. On paper this seemed like a great move, since she had hosted America’s Got Talent, as well as America’s Next Top Model.
As each episode of the competition went on, fans commented on Banks’s mistakes, like when announced the wrong couple in the bottom two, or when she couldn’t remember Charli D’Amelio‘s boyfriend’s name. Trust me, there’s many more slip-ups and even a few horrible fashion moments (yes, I’m talking about the Dinosaur dress).
Full disclosure, Banks hasn’t officially announced her departure from the series, aside from this moment. It appears that many things about DWTS are changing for upcoming season 32, it’s currently unknown if Alfonso Ribeiro will host the next season.
