Simone Biles Reunites with Sasha Farber to Choreograph Olympic Routine
Gymnast Simone Biles is heading off to the Tokyo Olympics set to kick off on July 23. One very special thing about her quest for the gold this time around is her floor routine. It was choreographed by Sasha Farber. The pair competed together on Season 24 of Dancing with the Stars with dynamic dances each week.
Simone Biles Teams Up with ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Partner to Choreograph Olympic Floor Routine
Farber and Biles’ reunion was documented in Episode 5 of her Facebook Watch series, Simone vs Herself. They had always spoken about working together on a floor routine. That vision has finally come true with a routine that showcases a whole new side of her.
“Usually, I have a different choreographer, but this year I feel like we needed to be a little bit different – spice it up,” Biles said. “Even whenever I worked with Sasha on Dancing with the Stars, we always said, ‘Oh my gosh, if we could do a floor routine, how cool would that be?'”
Biles, 24, is way more involved in her routines now than she was when she was younger. She is not afraid to speak up about the music or the costume she is wearing. Biles won four gold medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics and initially considered quitting gymnastics after the 2020 ceremony was postponed. Here she is one last time with her eyes on the prize.
“There’s a very sassy side to Simone that I’m really excited for people to see,” Farber said.
Farber Has Been Biles’ Biggest Fan Since They Met
Farber also said that Biles “moves like a dancer, no one’s just seen that yet.” He praised her for picking up the choreography in only one day. Biles debuted this floor routine at the U.S. Classic. The routine has a high level of difficulty and earned her a 14.250 score. During this competition, Biles became the first woman to land the Yurchenko double pike.
Even in 2017 when Biles and Farber competed together on Dancing with the Stars, he made a point to say he would be supporting her at her next Olympics. They landed in fourth place after many favored her to win the season. Everything has seriously come full circle now.
“This has literally has been a dream come true to work with her,” he said at the time. “She’s grown so much as a person and I wish she was in the finals, I wish she won this whole competition, and I wish the best for her. I’m going to be there cheering her on at the next Olympics with a huge sign saying ‘Go Simone!'”
