Simon Cowell Hits Second AGT Golden Buzzer for Youth Choir

During Tuesday’s show, the Birmingham Youth Fellowship Choir took the stage in coordinating denim overalls for their audition. Choir director Ahkeem Lee spoke about Birmingham’s important history for the civil rights movement, and said the group wants to “show that Birmingham, Alabama, has some talented young people.”

The choir went on to deliver an energetic and uplifting performance that had everyone smiling. All four AGT judges gave the group a standing ovation for their audition. Simon Cowell said, “I could see and hear how much work went into this. Every single one of you played the perfect part.”

Cowell was so impressed, he stood up to press the Golden Buzzer, thereby sending the Birmingham Youth Fellowship Choir straight into the Season 20 live shows. The group celebrated as gold confetti rained down on the stage. Cowell told them that it’s “just the beginning.”

Singer Austin Brown Gets a Second Chance

Tuesday’s show also featured a comeback performance from singer Austin Brown, who was rejected earlier in the season for his initial audition. He had the opportunity to return to the stage, this time singing an original song called “Somebody Believed.”

Austin’s performance was shared ahead of the episode as an early release clip, but we had to wait until the show aired to find out what the AGT judges though. Mel B and Sofia Vergara, who both voted “yes” to his previous audition, gave Austin a standing ovation for the new performance.

But what did the other two judges think? Howie Mandel told Austin that his performance “spoke to me,” and that he “did what you needed to do.” Simon Cowell said that he “sounded true to who you are, like a country singer.” This time, Austin received four “yes” votes to move on in the competition.

Anna Saranina Shoots Crossbow at Simon Cowell

There were plenty of other impressive auditions during this week’s new AGT episode, including one from Anna Saranina — who previously competed on the show as part of the duo Deadly Games. She shared that she initially stopped performing after she and her ex-husband, Alfredo Silva, split up.

Anna said she was returning to the AGT stage “to represent all women.” During her audition, not only did she shoot a crossbow at a moving target in front of her assistant, but she also caught an arrow in midair. She also covered her eyes and shot an arrow at a target held by her assistant.

The judges praised Anna’s performance, although Cowell said he thought it was a bit slow. So Anna suggested that he join her on stage for a trick. He agreed to stand behind a target, and Anna proceeded to shoot an arrow into it, making everyone gasp.

All four judges voted “yes” to sending Anna through in the competition. What did you think about this week’s AGT auditions? Let us know in the comments below.
