Ryan Seacrest Gets Emotional Over Father’s Cancer Battle
In a recent episode of On Air with Ryan Seacrest, the 50-year-old shared that his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer years ago and underwent treatment, but it “got worse and it spread.” During the last season of American Idol, Seacrest got a call that his father was in the ICU with pneumonia.
Seacrest said he finished the live show and immediately got on a flight to Atlanta. When he got there, his family was having a “life or death conversation” about an emergency surgery for his father. Seacrest also shared that his mother is in remission for her own cancer, and he wanted her to “take a break.”
“He didn’t leave his seat, or a hospital, or a home for four and a half months,” Seacrest said of his father’s experience, adding that he “went back and forth over the weekends” to see him. He said his father told him he just wants to “get out of this chair” for his upcoming birthday.
Seacrest started to cry as he shared that he had recently received a photo from his parents that showed them sitting on the beach together and smiling. He explained that his parents have been married for over 55 years. Sadly, although his father’s pneumonia is gone, he has to go back into treatment for his cancer.

Seacrest Calls Nurses ‘Angels’
While speaking about his father’s cancer on his radio show, Seacrest made sure to mention the medical professionals who have helped care for him, calling the nurses “angels.” He shared that he sent them something to say thank you.
“The nurses are the people that nurture and care and have emotion about their patients,” Seacrest said, according to People. “The nurses are the ones that are really looking after them day and night for hours, and I loved the team of nurses.”
Last month, Seacrest posted a tribute to his dad on Instagram for Father’s Day, calling him “the man who’s shaped who I am, who taught me how to work hard and stay grounded.”
