All of the weird things like ‘The Prize Fight’, wildcard, and ‘Sing-offs’ are just confusing people. The public doesn’t know these rules and they are being asked to adapt to a show that already has multiple rounds and rules. The contestants and even the judges seem to not know what’s going on. Dermot O’Leary even misspoke to one of the contestants about her having won a prize she hadn’t yet completely won. So, what’s the deal?
I think it has to do with continuity. There is this idea that people want innovation and that’s true when it comes to the latest iPhone. But when it comes to their entertainment, most people want consistency. The X Factor fans want to tune in and see the same show they’ve watched for a thousand years. It may just be that The X Factor’s time is coming to a close.
