Paula Abdul Talks About the Chemistry She Had With Simon Cowell During ‘American Idol’
Admit it. Looking back at the first few seasons of ‘American Idol’, we were all certain Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell were a thing. Well, over a decade later, Abdul has made it clear that those rumors were completely false.
Paula Abdul asked about Simon Cowell relationship rumours on ‘Idol’
Paula Adbul is adamant she never had feelings for TV mogul, Simon Cowell, back when they appeared on Idol together. Paula has recently spoken out on her love/hate relationship with Cowell, claiming he is more of a ‘brother’ to her.
“No!”, begins Paula when asked about the rumors on the ‘Supercharged Life With Dr. Judy’ podcast. “Not even for a nanosecond. I love him like a brother. I don’t have brothers but I learned what it’s like to have them between me being the only girl. No!”
“He’s like the boy in school that hits you,” continues Abdul when making the remark that the flirting was all from Cowell’s end. “I learned how to spar with him and that’s when it became very very fun for me. You can’t recreate that magic.”
Simon and Paula appeared on the show together for eight seasons, often humorously belittling each other. Ever since the two formed a close relationship with one another, viewers have rumored that the two were once in a relationship.
Simon Cowell has also made remarks on the ‘sexual tension’, as he puts it, between the two of them in an interview with Barbara Walters. “I think it was the sexual tension on her part,” claimed Cowell. “A million percent.” Simon also mentioned in the interview that the two of them ‘didn’t like each other in the beginning’ and he did, at one point ‘consider’ taking things further with Paula.
Can we expect to see Cowell and Paula on a panel together any time soon?
Funnily enough, last year it was announced that Paula would join Simon on his spin-off show, ‘X Factor: All Stars’ that was set to begin last year. However, due to an abrupt cancellation, the two never found each other on a panel. However, the opportunity is still possible, if Cowell decides to bring ‘All Stars’ back to the table, next year.
