With the Finale next week, this episode of The Masked Singer Semifinals is more exciting than ever! The fan favorites remaining all have their strengths, but one will be unmasked tonight.
So who will it be? And who will move on to the Finale to compete for the Golden Mask? Jay Pharoah joins the panel for The Masked Singer Semifinals!
The show kicked off with a group performance of Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best.” I really love this Top 4. And their voices together prove why they’re all still here. Plus, knowing they don’t get to interact with each other much during the show, it’s fun to see them all having fun on stage together.
Clues: Night Angel has “worked so hard and been through so much” to get here. She is the Night Angel because “years ago” someone close to her passed. Ever since, she’s felt like she has a guardian angel. This has taught her “tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.” The Golden Mask trophy is seen next to a soccer ball and a football. Her close-up clue was a moon.
Performance: Night Angel took a risk, singing “How to Love” by Lil Wayne. And she did so well with it! I didn’t know what to expect but this slowed down, sultry cover honestly exceeded all my expectations. She has a strong voice and made a great case for a woman winning the show. Will it finally be time in season 3?
Judges’ Guesses: Dawn Robinson, Ciara, Kandi Burruss
Clues: Turtle has started to believe in himself like he never has before. He says he looks up to one panelist in particular, Robin Thicke. A marching band hat is shown then a street sign with “BACK” written on it. Turtle bought a CD adapter to play Robin’s album growing up. He says it’s time to “quit playing games” going into the Finale. After his performance, Turtle’s close-up clue was a diamond ring.
Performance: My personal favorite, the Turtle, delivered with this performance! He sang “Jealous” by Nick Jonas, which is just the boy band vibes I wanted from him. His falsetto was spot on! Just when you think you’ve seen his best, he brings it up a notch. But he did tease he has another trick up his sleeve for the Finale!
Judges’ Guesses: Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Justin Guarini
Clues: Rhino’s clues started with him talking about how it “blows [his] mind wide open” that he’s still here, surrounded by heavy hitters. There was a point he “literally wore a mask” to hide from others. He is seen doing yoga in his trailer. He mentions something else “monumental” is happening in his life right now, he just can’t reveal it. A “9” is shown and Rhino plays trombone. He talks about teaching his rhinos and a photo is seen with three baby rhinos. His close-up clue was a baby rhino on his costume.
Performance: Singing “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw, Rhino has found his niche in country music. I don’t know if the initial performances were just trying to throw us off but this is his forte. He really nails the slow country ballads. And this song choice was the perfect fit!
Judges’ Guesses: Barry Zito, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton
Clues: The Frog is on a basketball court for his clues. He says this show is a “whole different ball game” and feels like a “slam dunk.” He feels “electrified” as he’s hit by electricity. Frog dances around, talking about going on tour with the Golden Mask trophy. Then, we see an album with “1000” on it and hair rollers. He finishes the clues by saying he has a “tadpole” at home to win it for. Frog’s close-up clue was a pin that says “MOM” on it. Robin jokingly points out that if you turn it upside-down, it says “WOW.”
Performance: Closing out the show by lighting up the stage yet again, Frog performed “Hip Hop Hooray” by Naughty By Nature. Nicole even predicted he could win the show! And it’s undeniable that his energy is contagious. The audience and panel are always loving it!
Judges’ Guesses: Chance the Rapper, Bow Wow, Lil’ Fizz
For the last time this season, one of these remaining singers will be unmasked. Just short of the Finale next week! And it is the Rhino going home.
Now, the panelists got to give their final guesses. Robin thought it might be Trace Adkins. Ken predicted he’s Barry Zito, which Jenny hesitantly agreed with. Nicole said he has to be a country singer, throwing out Jason Aldean. Guest panelist Jay Pharoah guessed it was the “only white tall country boy” he knows, Blake Shelton.
At the end, the Rhino was unmasked to be…
Baseball player Barry Zito!
So far this season, we’ve gotten all our predictions right. And this week was no exception! The Masked Singer returns for the Finale next Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX. You won’t want to miss this one!
