‘The Masked Singer’ Season 3 Premiere Recap: The Greatest Reveal of All Time?
Just like that, The Masked Singer is back for season 3! And the first guest panelist Jamie Foxx is joining Ken, Robin, Nicole, and Jenny. But with bigger celebrities than ever promised, who is under the masks?
Let’s take a look at what happened on the first episode of The Masked Singer season 3.
The White Tiger on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: The White Tiger his entire life, he’s “sought out perfection.” He describes his costume as displaying “ultimate power.” He talks about his career full of accomplishments. A trophy is shown for “Ultimate Champion Clam Shucking: 51 Clams” It’s been a while since he’s done something that scared him. A board shows Masked Singer tryouts on 5/3. His motivation is his fans. Then a poster is shown with three presidents, saying “Four score and seven years ago,” a nod to the Gettysburg Address.
Performance: In the first performance of the season, White Tiger sang “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice. This was an interesting one! He’s not much of a rapper but the pharaoh-like staging and costume were epic. And he had a lot of fun on the stage, which could help him stick around. I mean, how can you deny those choreographed dance moves?
Judges’ Guesses: John Cena, Tyler Perry, Rob Gronkowski, Jason Momoa, Michael Strahan
The Turtle on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: The Turtle said that “at the starting line” of his career, he was “surrounded by other hungry newcomers.” He’s seen on a track with men in rabbit ears next to him. He felt like everyone around him was “fighting tooth and nail for the dream.” When the race begins, he says many of those stars fizzled out quickly. Turtle is then seen waxing a pink and blue surfboard. He’s a Turtle cause he’s “always taken it step by step.” He is then seen flipping burgers on a grill and says he’s here to “make a big splash.”
Performance: Singing “Kiss From a Rose,” the Turtle upped the game from the first performance tonight. He nailed the high notes and showed off some boy ban tendencies. Turtle has an awesome falsetto though! If he’s not a trained singer, he’s at least got some experience. This was one of the better performances of the night!
Judges’ Guesses: Joey McIntyre, someone from 98 Degrees or New Kids on the Block, Donny Wahlberg, Zac Efron
The Llama on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: The Llama is seen as a radio host on “23.3 The Wool.” He calls his fans the “nerd herd.” He’s here to “have a laugh.” Llama has a Buddha on his desk. Then, he says you can call him a joker, as an Ace and Jack of Spades are shown. We then see a “Sounds of Seattle” record. The Llama then spins some pottery after talking about how he’s singing a love song tonight for a “special someone.” He ends his clues by saying “Llama out!”
Performance: Well, it was better than William Hung’s version of “She Bangs!” But that’s about where the compliments end. The backup dancers and pyrotechnics behind the Llama were probably the best part of the performance. Combined with the entire back end of a Llama behind him, this was at least entertaining! Overall not a winner though.
Judges’ Guesses: Howard Stern, David Spade, Joel McHale, Drew Carey
Miss Monster on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: Miss Monster says when people become famous, “people want you to look or act a certain way.” We see a can of hairspray and a key with a “FUN” tag written on it. She says she started off as “just a shy little monster.” She’s here to set the record straight. Miss Monster is seen opening her locker, #10, to pictures of Monster. She says she admires him for rewriting his story.
Performance: Miss Monster left it all on stage, singing “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt. She’s got an experienced voice for sure! It doesn’t sound like she’s new to the stage and her runs were on another level. Plus, you gotta love the cameo by the Monster from season 1! It was a really cute moment on stage.
Judges’ Guesses: Dolly Parton, Mary J. Blige, Dionne Warwick
The Robot on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: The Robot says that “creativity” and “grind” make the perfect Masked Singer. Two scientists point to “Pt” (Platinum) on the Periodic Table. A Tech Deck skateboard is seen crashing into a fire truck. He says he relates to robots because he “needs to put on a tough outer shell” which made him seem “inhuman” and “stunted his potential.” He’s had fame but he’s here to “tip the scales.” The Robot has a lot of love to give!
Performance: Robot rocked the stage singing “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz. His voice is so raspy and clear. I can’t say it was my favorite but it was definitely distinguishable! And he even got some robot dance moves in. This might have just been the wrong song choice for him.
Judges’ Guesses: Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville, Floyd Mayweather
The Kangaroo on The Masked Singer Season 3
Clues: Kangaroo starts her clues by saying, “I’m a survivor.” She said she recently lost someone who held her family’s heart together, then found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Paparazzi is shown trying to take her picture then a gramophone is displayed on screen. The Kangaroo has to fight for her family and show that bullies never win. She is shown jumping rope.
Performance: Last to perform was the Kangaroo, singing “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn. And she crushed it! Her range was incredible and she showed a lot of emotion in her voice. Hitting every note, this was the performance of the night in my opinion. You could tell it meant a lot to her when she kneeled at the end!
Judges’ Guesses: Jordin Sparks, Kelly Rowland, Iggy Azalea
Who is the Robot on The Masked Singer Season 3 ?
After all the performances, it was revealed that the Robot was being unmasked. The judges put in their final guesses but none of them were in agreement. They guessed Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville, Floyd Mayweather, Shaun White, and Flava Flav. But when the Robot was revealed, it was…
Of course! Such an iconic and recognizable voice. He’s best known for rapping and clearly his early departure on The Masked Singer proved his singing chops aren’t quite up to par. But the White Tiger, Turtle, Llama, Miss Monster, and Kangaroo will all be back to sing again on Wednesday night! Tune in at 9/8c on FOX.
