Macy Gray Storms Off ‘The Masked Singer UK’ Stage After Elimination
Reading Time: 3 minutes
There was some drama on The Masked Singer UK this week, as singer Macy Gray stormed off the stage before she could be unmasked after learning of her elimination. This is Gray’s third time appearing on a version of The Masked Singer.
Macy Gray Storms Off The Masked Singer UK Stage
The Masked Singer UK is currently in its sixth season. During this past weekend’s episode, contestant Toad in the Hole went up against Bear in a Sing-Off. When the panel decided to save Bear, Toad (who turned out to be Gray) walked off stage before she could be unmasked.
A source told The Sun that Gray was “totally blindsided” by her elimination so early in the competition, especially because she got so far as Sea Queen on the American version of the show, finishing in fourth place. She also appeared as Atlantis on the Australian version of the show, making it to the sixth episode.
Gray eventually returned to the stage for her unmasking, but The Sun reports that show bosses spent close to an hour trying to get her to come back. Host Joel Dommett reportedly remained on stage “essentially doing a stand-up routine” while everyone waited.
“It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out,” the source said. “For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt.”

Gray Was Eventually Unmasked
Gray eventually returned to the stage and took her mask off to reveal her identity. Host Joel Dommett posted clips from the incident on his Instagram account, starting with Gray storming off and shocking the panel. He captioned the video, “Lol.”
After taking off her mask, Gray appeared less than enthusiastic as Dommett asked her if she had fun. She replied shortly, “Yeah.” According to Page Six, Gray also said during the interview, “You know, I’ve been singing for a long time, and now I’m a toad.”
Gray also apparently avoided speaking to Harriet Rose, who hosts the spin-off show After Mask. During that show, panelist Jonathan Ross explained that they felt “certain” of Gray’s identity and were “desperate” to confirm their suspicions, hence why they voted her off.
“The case with Macy is she is a legend, she has a recognizable voice and she might as well go because we all know it is her, and they put the other person through because we still don’t know who they are,” Dommett told BBC Radio 2, adding, “I have never witnessed anything more funny than a 6ft toad storming off. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
