American Idol Season 20 finalist Leah Marlene surprised fans auditioning for the next season of the show earlier this month. She’s not the only former contestant to make an appearance during the virtual Idol Across America auditions this month.

Leah shared her appearance on her Instagram stories on August 8, writing, “Just crashed the @americanidol Idol Across America zoom auditions and it brought back all the feels.” She added that she was “sending everybody auditioning all the love and bravery today!! just have fun! you got this!”
American Idol‘s Instagram also shared clips of Leah’s appearance. This post included what she had to say about judge Katy Perry and how much the people involved in the show want to see the contestants succeed.
“Katy is the bomb,” Leah said, according to Heavy. “Just know, whether it’s the producers or the judges or the audience, it’s like everybody is always rooting for you to succeed. She’s always rooting for you to succeed. You’re not going in there with people wanting you to fail. Like, everybody there wants to see you succeed.”
Despite her positive attitude, Leah has also been open about the difficult time she’s had after placing third on the show earlier this year. She wrote last month that she feels “very misunderstood by the industry” and “so deeply alone in this experience.”

Other Contestants Are Making Appearances
Leah isn’t the only American Idol contestant who has made appearances during the ongoing virtual auditions. Fellow Season 20 star Fritz Hager appeared on August 10, and Christian Guardino appeared on August 12. Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard is set to appear on August 15.
Hopefuls can submit an audition video now, or sign up for an upcoming Idol Across America virtual audition date to sing for producers. At least one young singer has already been chosen to sing in front of the judges this season.
All three judges (Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan) are set to return for Season 21 of the show on ABC, with Ryan Seacrest once again hosting.
