John Legend Prepares For ‘The Voice’ Finale By Forming New A Cappella Group
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice coach, John Legend hilariously formed a new a cappella group ahead of tonight’s finale. Joined by actors Ed Helms and Randall Park, Legend’s new promotional spot sees him working through the kinks in an Office-style video. The video also serves as promotion for Helms and Park’s new Peacock hybrid comedy, True Story.
It’s the battle between the EGOT winner and Helms, who draws from his famous The Office character, Andy Bernard throughout the clip. Both men are not backing down to see who will sing lead in their a cappella group. From thinking of the name, to matching outfits, to just wanting “snacks” as Parker says, Legend means business.
In the opening, Legend says that he was the musical director of his college a cappella group, which is a true fact about the soon to be Las Vegas showstopper.
“I thought it was time I got back to my roots and formed an a cappella group,” Legend says.

In the crossover that we didn’t know we needed, Helms mentions that he was also in an a cappella group once upon a time. Fans of The Office will surely have a sense of nostalgia. On the show, Helms’s s cappella group, Here Comes Treble left a lasting impression on the series.
In this fun clip, the trio’s quick wit banter leads them to thinking of names for their newly formed group.
“I am thinking the Legendary Legends of Legend town,” Legend said.
After revealing their matching outfits and the funny struggle discussing who would sing lead, the group disbanded. The comedy clip is the perfect crossover to promote tonight’s star-studded The Voice finale and the new Peacock show True Story, which is hosted by Helms and Parker.
Tonight’s finale will see Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, and Arianna Grande all take the stage to perform. Legend will also perform alongside Carrie Underwood. The duo will sing their award winning single “Hallelujah.”
