Although Alyson Hannigan’s Most Memorable Year dance was dedicated to her husband, How I Met Your Mother super fans were pleased to see a symbol from the series as part of the dance. For those who may not know, the show’s Most Memorable Year Night gives contestants a chance to remember important moments in their lives. For the night, Alyson chose to honor her 20-year marriage to her husband, Alexis Denisof. But, many noticed that she was also honoring her role of Lily Aldrin on How I Met Your Mother.

Alyson Hannigan Brings The Infamous Yellow Umbrella to the Dance Floor
In Alyson’s recent performance with partner Sasha Farber, they danced to Ed Sheeran’s song “Perfect.” Fans were extremely excited to see Alyson’s improved dance moves in the ballroom, but they were just as excited to see a bright yellow umbrella as part of the routine. For those who may not know, the umbrella is a symbol from the show, representing Ted Mosby’s search for true love.
The yellow umbrella that Alyson danced with holds a special place in the hearts of How I Met Your Mother fans. The yellow umbrella, originally owned by the mother, played a significant role in Ted’s life. With the initials “T.M.” on the umbrella, Ted mistake them as his own. The umbrella is a beloved symbol of the twists and turns that led Ted to meet Tracy McConnell, the love of his life. This was the conclusion of Ted’s journey to find true love, which had been the premise of the show.
In an interview, Alyson expressed her gratitude. She said that she doesn’t focus on the scores but takes the judges’ advice to heart and tries to improve with each performance.
“I know I’m not the best dancer. I’m never going to be the best dancer. The fact that I’m still here, I’m so grateful.” Alyson said.
Even though she received lower scores for her performance that night, Alyson’s heartfelt tribute resonated with the audience. Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko were eliminated, but Alyson, who has been in the bottom two multiple times this season, remained determined.
How I Met Your Mother Star Josh Radnor Commented on Alyson Hannigan’s Post
On Instagram, Alyson posted a photo of herself with the yellow umbrella, saying, “If you know you know.” Fans recognized the reference and shared their love for the show in the comments, recalling their favorite How I Met Your Mother moments.
Josh Radnor, who played Ted Mosby, commented on Alyson’s post, writing, “I know!” It was a heartwarming moment that showed the enduring bond among the cast members and also the love fans have for the show.
It’s important to note here that due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, this may be the only way Alyson can pay tribute to the show. Although she wouldn’t be necessarily promoting anything, her talking about the series would be bringing eyes to her past SAG-AFTRA work, which could result in a fine, depending on how it was said/perceived. Respect to Alyson for playing it safe, yet still including such an iconic symbol from the beloved series.
