Harry Connick Jr., Meghan Trainor Announced as 2023 ‘Australian Idol’ Judges

Former American Idol judge Harry Connick Jr. is now heading to Australian Idol to join the panel for the upcoming 2023 season, the first in 14 years. He’ll be joined by Meghan Trainor, who also has experience judging talent shows.

Connick was a judge on American Idol from Season 13 to Season 15, alongside Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban. The singer recently shared the news on social media that he’ll be starting as a judge on Australian Idol next year, writing that he’s “so excited.”
“I’m looking forward to hearing all the new talent!” Connick said in a statement. “I love the camaraderie with the judges, the excitement of the crowd and the fun of it all. I love the idea of musical competition; it forces performers to focus on a bunch of things that contribute to their development as artists.”
Connick will be joined on the panel by fellow American singer Meghan Trainor, Australian singer Amy Shark, and Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands. The new season will premiere next year on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Trainor Also Has Talent Show Experience
Meghan Trainor has appeared as a judge on several talent shows over the years, including The Four: Battle for Stardom and Clash of the Cover Bands. She was also a coach on The Voice UK in 2020, and she joined Team Blake as a mentor on The Voice Season 8.
“I can’t wait to sit front row and meet new talent,” Trainor said in a statement. “I haven’t been to Australia since 2015, so I’m really excited to get to see the whole country and basically get to live there!”
Australian Idol ended its initial run in 2009, making this new season the first in 14 years. A release date has yet to be announced for the new competition.
