Coming from County Westmeath, Horan is of Irish descent who grew up with divorced parents. At 16, he tried his shot at fame by auditioning in The X Factor UK back in 2010. Interestingly, if it wasn’t for Katy Perry, he wouldn’t be sent to the bootcamp.
Subsequently, when he failed to go through the next stage of the competition, Nicole Scherzinger’s magic came along. As agreed by the judges, Horan was placed in a group with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. Little did he know at the time, it was the beginning of his exponential fame with the rest of the members of what people recognize best as One Direction.
After placing third in the series, they signed to SyCo Entertainment and released their debut single “What Makes You Beautiful” in 2011. From there, the band become internationally recognized, with each of their concert tickets getting sold out just minutes after release.
Yet, while the band appeared to be going strong, it was broken in 2015. This circumstance compelled Horan to redirect his career plans.
He Went Solo After One Direction’s Indefinite Hiatus
As a keen golfer, Horan founded a golf company in 2016, Modest Golf, thus involving himself in the corporate world. During the same year, he signed himself up with Capitol Records as a solo artist. Afterwards, put out his first song, “This Town.”
In 2017, Horan released Flicker, his debut studio album. This was then followed by his 2020 music collection, Heartbreak Weather. At present, Horan is gearing up for release of his first album after three years, The Show. The former band member has recently dropped the first track to this collection, titled “Heaven.“
