Disney’s Label Hollywood Records Will Release ‘American Idol’ Winner

NBC

The big prize at the end of American Idol has always been a big record contract. In the early days it was with Sony and later Interscope Records and Big Machine Records. These companies had huge hits with American Idol artists, especially in the early days. But Disney, being Disney, figures it will just keep it all in house.

The winner of American Idol will get a record contract with Disney’s own Hollywood Records. Why outsource that income to another company when you can keep it all in the family. I’ve worked for The Mouse (Disney) and I can tell you that this is how they roll. American Idol will air on ABC which is owned by Disney and that means that those artists will belong to Disney. That’s what they call synergy.

Will the contracts pay off? We’ll have to wait and see. Historically contestants on American Idol and The X Factor have done better than the ones on The Voice even though The Voice has higher ratings. That shows that it matters which label you sign with and whether or not they are going to properly promote you.
