Chloe Kohanski Changed Her Voice Because Of Sexism In The Music Industry

The sad reality is that women in the arts are still treated unfairly to say the least. They are subject to predatory advances by the largely male-dominated producers and are generally not taken seriously in the industry. Chloe Kohanski has had to deal with that at a young age. She dealt with it by changing her voice.

She claims in the Yahoo video above that she changed the register of her voice from higher-pitched to the gravely low voice we all know and love today largely because she wasn’t being taken seriously in Nashville because she was too ‘girly’. Though I love her current voice, it’s sad that she felt that she had to do that. It’s a sad testament to the reality of the music industry today.

It’s not much different in the film and TV world I come from…I mean, obviously. Just look at the news. I just hope Chloe is able to navigate the boy’s club of the music industry without too much damage to her soul. It’s tough but so is she.
