Cheryl Burke Marks 7 Years of Sobriety on Instagram

On Wednesday, Burke posted a series of photos on Instagram from throughout her journey to sobriety. She wrote in the caption, “7 years ago, I thought sobriety would mean losing everything. The fun. The freedom. The fearless version of me I thought only showed up after a drink.”

Burke went on to write that she once thought “alcohol gave me confidence, connection, and control,” but instead “it stole those things quietly — day by day — until I couldn’t recognize my own reflection.”

“Today, I no longer chase chaos dressed as fun,” Burke wrote. “I no longer tolerate connections that require me to abandon myself. And I no longer mistake numbness for peace. What I thought I’d miss in sobriety? Was never real to begin with.”

She went on to tell other people who are struggling that there is “a whole world on the other side of rock bottom,” calling it “so much more beautiful than I ever imagined.”

Fans Showed Their Support for the Star

Burke’s fans expressed their support for the star in the comments of her post, with some of them sharing how long they’ve been sober themselves. One commenter called Burke “very inspiring,” while someone else said she is “a bright light example of empowerment.”

DWTS alum Nicole Scherzinger also chimed in, writing, “This is beautiful. You’re amazing.” Former DWTS host Tom Bergeron also commented, telling Burke, “Bravo!!” Season 29 contestant Chrishell Stause commented a few applause emojis.

Burke joined Dancing with the Stars as a pro in Season 2, winning the show in her first two seasons. She officially left the show after Season 31, which aired in 2022.
