Ben Affleck Opens Up About Divorce from Jennifer Lopez
Affleck and Lopez were famously engaged over 20 years ago, before calling things off in 2004. They rekindled their romance years later, tying the knot in 2022. However, they split again last year, with Lopez filing for divorce in August. It was finalized in January of this year.
Before their split, Lopez released a documentary exploring the making of her album This Is Me… Now, and the accompanying movie. Affleck’s involvement in the project got people talking, as fans thought he seemed annoyed by Lopez sharing details of their private life with the public.
Affleck told GQ that Lopez has “handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have,” adding that he’s “a little bit more reserved and private.” However, he made it clear that what fans saw in the documentary “wasn’t the cause of some major fracture.”
“It’s not like you can watch that documentary and go, ‘Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had,'” Affleck explained in the interview.

Affleck Has ‘Nothing But Respect’ For Lopez
During his interview with GQ, Affleck also made it clear that he has “nothing but respect” for Lopez after their divorce, adding of the media speculation, “I guess there’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something.”
He explained that there was “no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” involved in their split, sharing, “It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”
Affleck said that if he shared the backstory for their divorce, “it sounds more like a couple’s therapy session,” adding, “And the reason I don’t want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”
