Ballads vs. Bops: Watch John Legend vs. James Corden Sing Songs Of Summer
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice coach John Legend is in a bit of a disagreement with The World’s Best host James Corden. John appeared on The Late Late Show this week to argue with James about which type of song is better for summer — ballads or bops.
James says he’s sick of hearing so many slow songs on the radio during the summer months, and wishes he could roll down the car windows and “jam out.” John, on the other hand, thinks summer is a time to “slow things down” and “listen to sensual love songs.”
John Legend vs. James Corden Riff-Off
Obviously, there was only one way these two could settle their differences — with a riff-off. The pair were joined by a cappella group The Filharmonic to go back and forth performing ballads and bops.
James Corden performed songs like “Sucker” by the Jonas Brothers and “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, against John Legend’s performances of “I Swear” by All-4-One and his own song “All of Me.” Of course, they had to end the competition on a friendly note, choosing to combine their talents on a duet of “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi.
John Legend Is A Former Spelling Bee Champ
James also took the time to sit on James’ sofa for some conversation, and shared that he won a city spelling bee when he was a kid. (There’s even a newspaper article to prove it, featuring a photo of young John.) Of course, James couldn’t resist asking him to spell something on the spot, which made John a little nervous.
Since This Is Us star Mandy Moore was a fellow guest, James challenged John to spell the name of her co-star, Milo Ventimiglia. Check out the above video to find out if he got it right.
