We’re used to seeing Ariana Grande with her signature long ponytail. So imagine fans’ surprise when the singer debuted a drastic haircut on social media this week.
The newest coach on The Voice posted a video showing off her new look (along with a statement hat) on Instagram Wednesday. Fans in the comments gushed about her hair.
Ariana Grande Debuts Shorter Hair on Instagram
In Grande’s latest Instagram video, she shows off a fresh hairdo that reaches the tops of her shoulders, with flippy ends. She’s also wearing a red fuzzy-brimmed hat to complete the retro look.
The singer didn’t add a caption to the post, but she did share another video to go with it. It’s a clip from the movie To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Patrick Swayze’s character Vida declares, “I think tomorrow is a ‘say something’ hat day.”

Grande’s new ‘do is being described as a lob. It’s not the first time she’s debuted a hairstyle like this. Elle reports that she had a lob in November 2018. However, by December, she was back to her classic ponytail look. It has us wondering how long this style will last. Will we see it on The Voice this season?
What Do Fans Think of Grande’s New Hair?
One fan account on Instagram commented on Grande’s post by saying, “SHORT HAIR LOOK SO GOOD ON YOU ARIANA.” Other users simply replied with heart emojis to show their appreciation.
Fans on Twitter were also all-caps levels of excited about the star’s new look. One fan wrote, “ARIANA IN SHORT STRAIGHT HAIR AM I DREAMING?????? I MUST BE BECUASE OH MY GOD MY DREAMS CAME TRUE.” Another posted that she looks “so cute.”
However, another user pointed out that just because her hair looks shorter than we’re used to, it doesn’t mean she actually got a haircut. She could have just removed her hair extensions, leaving her real hair. Either way, it’s a fresh new look for summer, and we’re loving it.
