American Idol Season 18 alum Francisco Martin has released a new song called “Lily.” The track, which is about the end of a relationship, has a smooth sound that’s perfect for relaxed listening during the summer months.

The track’s title refers to a woman the narrator is dating. Things aren’t going well in the relationship, as he sings on the chorus, “Lily, I’m barely hanging on / Is it too much to say you’re wrong? / Because you do things to me / Make me wanna lose my mind / And now you leave me high and dry / Lily, why oh why?”

Martin’s voice is soulful on the song, as he’s backed by easy-going drums and guitar. The track’s cover art features the singer lying on his back in a field of grass with his arms outstretched. It matches the song’s summery sound, which is an interesting juxtaposition with the angstier lyrics.

“This song started one late, hazy night with my closest friends and family and was finished at the legendary Stupid Youth Studios,” Martin said in a press release. “While the song sounds easy-going, the lyrics pull at your heartstrings.”

What Has Martin Been Up to Recently?

Since making it to the Top 5 on American Idol in 2020, Martin has released several singles and two EPs — Beautiful Ramblings of a Restless Mind in 2021 and Manic in 2022. The singer moved to Los Angeles and has spent time touring.

Earlier this year, Martin released another new single called “Passenger Princess.” He’s also contributed his songwriting talents to a number of tracks for his fellow artists. Recently, he worked with Idol Season 21 finalists Iam Tongi and Colin Stough on their original songs for the show.

On Friday, after releasing “Lily,” Martin updated fans on Instagram, writing that he’s two months sober. He added, “And after dealing with lots of medical and emotional trauma these last few weeks, I’m happy to continue to put my art out into the world.”
