Is Carrie Underwood returning to American Idol as a judge next season? Fellow judge Luke Bryan recently weighed in on the matter, saying it’s “highly favorable” that Underwood will be back for Season 24. However, he’s not so sure about his own return.

Luke Bryan on Carrie Underwood’s American Idol Return

Underwood joined American Idol as a judge last season, replacing longtime judge Katy Perry. The former winner sat alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, who have been judges on the show since it moved to ABC 2018.

“I know she had a great time in the role,” Bryan recently told Taste of Country, adding of the probability that Underwood will return to the show, “My prediction would be highly favorable.”

Surprisingly, Bryan seems less certain about his own return to the panel for Season 24, which is expected to premiere next spring. The country star explained of his role as a judge, “Idol is kind of a year-by-year, ‘Do we do it or not?'”

Bryan said that his experience on Season 23 earlier this year was “really really incredible,” adding of his potential return, “We’ll see what happens.”

Why Would Underwood Leave the Show?

Bryan sounds pretty confident that Underwood will return to American Idol next season. However, if she does end up leaving, her decision might have something to do with missing her family when she’s filming the show.

“She’s on the road a lot. She’s missing her kids and Mike, which is very tough,” a source told Life & Style. “They FaceTime day and night and she flies home every spare moment she gets, but it’s not the same as just being there.”

Still, the source added that Underwood is “nowhere near throwing in the towel” on Idol, explaining, “She loves doing the show. Not only is it a huge opportunity and a massive paycheck, it’s also really fun.”
