‘American Idol’ Crushed In The Ratings By The Academy Of Country Music Awards
Reading Time: 1 minutes
American Idol just can’t catch a break. On Sunday night it was soundly beaten in the ratings by The Academy of Country Music Awards. Like, REALLY beaten. The award show celebrating the best in country music easily won the night. Now with The Voice lives starting tomorrow American Idol should be scared.
American Idol got a 1.3 share whereas the ACMs got 2.7 share and won the coveted 18-49 demo that American Idol had been winning for several weeks. This definitely shows the popularity of country music among people who watch talent competition shows. I’m sure if the awards show had been against The Voice it would have syphoned off some of the viewers. Idol didn’t even benefit off of having a lead-in of the Comey interview on ABC.
Speaking of The Voice, their live shows start tonight and historically that is when The Voice‘s ratings, (which are already pretty good), really take off. This does not bode well for American Idol. The truth is that it has been beaten every single night it has been on, Sundays and Mondays. ABC is going to have to think long and hard if it’s worth it to bring back such an expensive show that gets only middling ratings.
