‘The Voice’ Recap: Coaches Use Up Steals as Battles Wind Down
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice Season 22 returned on Monday night for another round of the Battles, as the coaches used up their steals. This episode featured more impressive matchups, although the coaches’ decisions weren’t exactly surprising.
Gwen Stefani Steals Sasha Hurtado on ‘The Voice’
Monday night’s first steal came from Gwen Stefani, who nabbed 18-year-old Sasha Hurtado from Camila Cabello’s team. She was up against Devix on the song “Electric Feel” by MGMT. John Legend called it his “favorite performance of the day.”
Cabello’s critique made it pretty clear that she was going to choose Devix as the Battle winner, since she told him that it sounded like his own song, while she told Sasha that she would shine more with another track. Stefani said her decision to steal Sasha was “very spontaneous.”
It wasn’t the only Battle with an obvious outcome during Monday’s show. Legend chose to keep Kim Cruse on his team over David Andrew, calling Kim “an elite vocalist” with “such control over your instrument.” Meanwhile, Blake Shelton chose Kate Kalvach over Madison Hughes after telling Madison he heard some “pitchy things” in her performance.

John Legend Steals Ian Harrison After Powerhouse Performance
The night ended with a powerhouse Battle between Alyssa Witrado and Ian Harrison on Gwen Stefani’s team. The pair sang “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, starting soft before turning fierce for an emotional performance.
Stefani already used her save earlier in the season, so she had to choose between the two artists. She admitted that she was leaning in a direction she didn’t expect going into the Battle, choosing Alyssa as the winner. But Ian won’t be going home, because Legend stole him for his own team.
There’s only one save left going into Tuesday’s episode, and it belongs to Blake Shelton. As he said, he’s “waiting for that perfect moment” to use it. Which artist will get to stay on his team after losing their Battle? We’ll find out soon.
