Ian Flanigan was an early standout with one of the most unique voices on Season 19 of The Voice. Blake Shelton was a huge fan of the singer from New York and made it clear that he was rooting for him throughout the show. Now, the duo is collaborating together on a song coming out very soon.

‘The Voice’ Standout Ian Flanigan Announces New Song with Blake Shelton

Ian posted on both Twitter and Instagram about his exciting collaboration.

“New music May 14th!! My new single, ‘Grow Up’ featuring Blake Shelton is coming soon. Couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Go click the link in my bio to pre-save the new single!” he announced.

The country songwriter also accompanied the post with a teaser of the song. “Grow Up” seriously sounds like it could be the next big chart-topping country hit. It’s a bit of a different sound than what Ian first showcased on The Voice. We are so used to hearing him take on ballads and enchanting us with his raspy voice.

Now, he is combining everything that fans love about country music including catchy lyrics and upbeat tunes to create this masterpiece of a duet. Who better to collaborate with than his coach on The Voice?

“Sounds great, can’t wait to hear the full single. Recording with Blake, damn that’s so great this is gonna be awesome for you!” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Ian was a Frontrunner to Win the Show Last Year

Ian first auditioned for The Voice with Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather” in 2020. Shelton was the only coach to turn his chair, but it honestly didn’t matter. Ian solidified himself as a frontrunner on Team Blake right from the start. Shelton even commented that Ian’s voice sounded like he has been “gargling broken glass.”

On the show, Ian shared his story about overcoming addiction and going to rehab. At the time of his debut on The Voice, he had celebrated his fourth year of sobriety. He has established his career as a traveling musician while spending time with his fiance Ayla and her 7-year-old daughter Kamea.

Once Ian made it to the live shows, it seemed like he had the competition in the bag. He shockingly landed in the bottom five during the Semi-finals and had to fight for the Instant Save. After winning the Instant Save, Ian soared to the finale where he finished the competition in third place behind Jim Ranger and winner Carter Rubin.

After competing on The Voice, Ian packed up his van and went on a tour around the United States. He even played sold-out shows at Shelton’s own music venue Ole Red. Fellow Season 19 Team Blake artists Worth The Wait also got to play at Shelton’s venue this year.

Shelton has been one of the many coaches on the show who has granted contestants opportunities to showcase their talents beyond The Voice. In the past, he has done very successful collaborations with Gwen Sebastian and has an upcoming collaboration with The Swon Brothers on his new album.
