America’s Got Talent season ten contestant, Stacey Kay took the Canada’s Got Talent stage on Tuesday night. She stepped on stage filled with confidence and went onto earn Kardinal Offishall’s Golden Buzzer.
Cambridge, Ontario native singer Stacey Kay impressed during Canada’s Got Talent on Tuesday night. She came to the stage, acknowledging that she had previously competed on AGT. Stacey was a singer on season ten that was eliminated in the Judge Cut rounds by Howie Mandel.
Howie Mandel recognized Stacey and her band as soon as they stepped foot on stage. While he didn’t remember her name, he remembered that they first met four or five years ago. To jog Mandel’s mind, Stacey noted that he eliminated her from AGT previously.
Stacey showed off her powerhouse vocals singing “Lady Marmalade” by Patti Labelle. Her performance showed off both her impressive vocals and larger than life personality. The four judges gave Stacey a standing ovation at the end of the song.
Before judges could give her notes, Offishall made fun of Mandel for eliminating Stacey prior. Mandel owned up to his mistake, expressing that he was an idiot.
“I’m brilliant, because of me being such an idiot you are here tonight,” Mandel said. “I’m telling you the best things are worth waiting for. It has been four or maybe five years. This was worth it. This was brilliant, you blew the roof off.”
Following Mandel, Offishall acknowledged that he is a record producer on top of a rapper. Since he’s experienced in recording records, he explained that some performances don’t translate into deals.
Through the audience booing, Offishall expressed that he wasn’t sure if Stacey’s performance would translate well. While begging the audience to listen to him he got up from his seat. Before hitting the Golden Buzzer he said he wasn’t sure once again. Once it was pressed, he stated that he was positive it would.
Stacey Kay Returns To The Talent Show Stage As Her Most Authentic Self
During Stacey’s biography package, she explained that she was uncertain of herself at the time of her AGT audition. Ahead of the series she had been working with Toronto-based record label, Slaight Music. She shared that the label made her change several things about her appearance, specifically her weight and hair color. They also wanted her to produce music similar to Adele.
While she didn’t touch on much else related to the label, it’s obvious that she’s moved on since. Stacey chose to take the Canada’s Got Talent stage for a new start in her career. She’s now living the truest form of herself, so she wants to portray it on a national scale.
Stacey has been recognized by several artists, including BeBe Rexha, RuPaul, Meghan Trainor, Fergie, Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Hudson, and Chris Brown to date. In addition, she has performed with or opened for David Foster, CeeLo Green, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton, and more.
In 2020, she became the songwriter, producer, and vocalist for Canada’s Drag Race host Brooke Lynn Hytes, as well as winner Priyanka. Stacey’s songs were featured in season two of the series.
