America’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell recently shared his concerns about his 11-year-old son Eric having a cell phone. The music mogul said he’s worried about Eric “having access to anything” he’s not ready for.
Simon Cowell Concerned About Son Getting a Cell Phone
Cowell welcomed his son Eric in 2014 with his partner Lauren Silverman. During a recent appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Cowell told interviewer Jeff Brazier about why the idea of Eric having a cell phone worries him.
“I’m very worried, Jeff, about how much kids can see at a certain age,” Cowell said, according to People. “I grew up … learning things at the right time, the right age, etcetera, etcetera. I just would be petrified of him having access to anything that would really worry me.”
In the same interview, Cowell shared that becoming a father is “the best thing to ever happen to me,” adding, “When he was a baby, because they don’t really do anything, I’m like, ‘Well why doesn’t he like me?’ and Lauren was going, ‘He’s a baby’ and I didn’t understand that. Then, at about a year and a half, we started to communicate, that was magic.”
Eric has appeared with Cowell on both America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent over the years. Cowell previously described him as a “good critic” when it comes to judging the acts.

Cowell Tries to Teach Eric to Be Respectful
During his recent interview on This Morning, Cowell also opened up about how he aims to teach Eric the same lessons his own parents taught him about treating other people with respect.
“My mom used to say, manners make the man, and my dad was very good about respecting other people, and I’m trying to do the same thing with him,” Cowell explained. “Don’t make it overcomplicated, you know? Find your path, be happy, [and] be respectful to other people.”
Will we see Eric make an appearance on this season of America’s Got Talent? We’ll have to wait and see as the competition continues.
