Miley Cyrus Told Her ‘Voice’ Contestants To Stay Off Social Media
One important but often overlooked aspect of these talent competition shows is that the contestants, (as well as the judges), need to have their social media game on point. We saw that with The X Factor UK and it definitely worked in their favor. But this year The Voice contestants have been less active. At least for Miley’s team that seems to have been an order from Miley herself.

Miley told People Magazine,
“I’ve got a strict ‘no reading the comments on social media rule. I want them to stay in a confident mind frame and the quickest way to get out of one is to read some dumb comments from people who don’t have lives,†she says. “I always wonder who wants to write something to hurt someone. I guess you have to be willing to take all the hate for the positive of getting to perform.”
Of course, not reading the comments is very different than not pushing your brand and performances on social media. Team Miley has done an alright job of that with people on other teams doing sometimes better and sometimes worse. I get her point about not reading the negative comments because they can get in your head, but please contestants, don’t mistake that for not Tweeting and Facebooking yourself…or retweeting our posts…
