Former Spice Girls star Mel B is set to return to the America’s Got Talent judging panel for Season 20 of the show, after several seasons away. In a recent interview, the singer revealed that she was previously fired from the show.

Mel B Was Previously Fired from America’s Got Talent

Mel B joined the AGT judging panel in Season 8, along with Heidi Klum. She judged the show through Season 13, after which she and Klum were replaced by Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough in Season 14. Klum later returned for Season 15, but Mel B did not.

The Spice Girls singer recently told Today of her departure from the judging panel, “I got kind of laid off and fired. But yeah, I’m back now.” This isn’t her first time back on Got Talent in recent years, as she previously appeared as a judge on America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League in 2024.

When asked why she decided to return to the show, Mel B responded, “I mean, why not? It was perfect timing.” Fellow judge Howie Mandel chimed in to say that she returned to the show because “she gets to work with me.”

Mel B and Mandel will be joined on the panel this season by returning judges Simon Cowell and Sofia Vergara. The show announced earlier this year that Klum would not be returning to the show this season. Terry Crews will be back to host.

When Does Season 20 Premiere?

America’s Got Talent Season 20 is set to premiere on Tuesday, May 27, on NBC. New episodes of the season will also be available to stream on Peacock. The first part of the season will focus on auditions, as the judges decide who should move on, and award a few Golden Buzzers.

The live shows will reportedly begin airing on August 19, as viewers at home will be able to vote for which acts they want to see move on in the competition. Live performances will air on Tuesday nights, with results announced on Wednesdays.
