Mariah Carey Releases First New Single in Years, Teases New Album

Mariah Carey is back with her first new music in years, as she released a single called “Type Dangerous” this week. The singer has also teased that she has a new album coming soon — her first in almost seven years.

Mariah Carey Releases New Single ‘Type Dangerous’

On Thursday night, Carey dropped a new single called “Type Dangerous,” along with a lyric video in which she can be seen driving and posing in front of a luxury car. The track definitely has a nostalgic sound, as Carey harkens back to the music that made her famous.

Carey is confident in the song’s lyrics, singing that she wears “certified diamonds like the songs I wrote.” In the chorus, she sings, “Lookin’ for the dangerous type / I like ’em dangerous / I’m lookin’ for the dangerous type / I said I like ’em dangerous.”

As of this writing, the song’s lyric video has over 250,000 views and counting. On Friday afternoon, a Mariah Carey fan account on X (formerly Twitter) shared that “Type Dangerous” had officially entered the Top 3 on the U.S. iTunes song chart.

Carey Teases Upcoming New Album

Ahead of her new song’s release, Carey teased new music for fans on social media. Earlier this week, she posted a video on Instagram in which she steps into a car and presses play on a song labeled “T:D_MC16.mp3.”

The license plate on the car also reads “MC16,” suggesting that Carey’s 16th studio album is on the way. The singer’s most recent album was Caution, released in November 2018. It featured the singles “With You” and “A No No.”

“I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous’!” Carey said in a statement upon the release of her newest track.
