Luke Bryan on American Idol 2024

American Idol judge Luke Bryan had a funny reaction to fans calling him “Blake” during a recent interview with CMT. He and fellow country star Blake Shelton have a friendly rivalry, which Bryan made sure to mention.

Luke Bryan Reacts to Fans Calling Him Blake

While Luke Bryan was being interviewed by Cody Alan for CMT, a group of fans could be heard calling out to the country singer, saying, “We love you, Blake!” When he realized they had called him Blake, Bryan laughed and shouted back, “Kiss my a**!”

Alan pointed out to Bryan that Blake Shelton is “still behind you, though, on the No. 1 count.” Bryan joked, “That’s the only reason I’m still in the game of country music, is to stay ahead. I thought he was retiring. He’s back putting songs out. It’s not the deal we had.”

When Alan shared that Bryan earned his 32nd No. 1 single with the track “Country Song Came On,” the star lamented the fact that Jason Aldean had recently earned his 30th No. 1 and Shelton has 31 of his own, joking, “I thought I was gonna be the only one in the 30s.”

Bryan, Shelton Have a Friendly Rivalry

Bryan and Shelton have engaged in friendly banter for several years now. In 2018, when Bryan first started as a judge on American Idol, he told Seth Meyers that he asked Shelton for advice, adding, “I don’t know why. I would recommend to never reach out to him.”

In 2021, Shelton joked that Bryan’s Jockey underwear commercial was “disgusting,” adding, “Luke just seems like one of those guys that walks around his house in his underwear all day with pee stains on them.”

The rivalry is all in good fun, though. In 2017, Shelton remarked about Bryan in an interview, “I love Luke like a brother, I really do, but he’s just dumb.”
