Kelly Clarkson could be replacing Ellen DeGeneres at some point in the future. DeGeneres recently announced that she’s ending her show, and Clarkson is rumored to be the frontrunner to take her time slot.
TMZ reports that NBC has been looking at Clarkson as a possible replacement since before DeGeneres officially announced her departure. Clarkson has been hosting her own talk show on the network since 2019.
Will Kelly Clarkson Replace Ellen DeGeneres?
DeGeneres recently shared the news that she is ending her talk show with Season 19. The decision comes after months of controversy following reports of a toxic workplace.
“I just needed something to challenge me,” DeGeneres said of her decision. “And as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore. I need something new to challenge me.”
According to TMZ, NBC executives planned for The Kelly Clarkson Show to be the possible successor to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. However, they reportedly didn’t anticipate the struggles the show would face during the COVID-19 pandemic — leading to a dip in ratings.
Whether or not Clarkson will take DeGeneres’ place reportedly depends on the popularity of her show in the coming months. Another name that’s apparently been thrown into the ring is Tiffany Haddish, who has guest-hosted DeGeneres’ show.

How Does Clarkson Feel About Her Talk Show?
In 2019, when Clarkson’s show was just starting, she talked to DeGeneres about the experience in an interview. She shared that one of the reasons she wanted to host a talk show is simply that she loves to talk.
Clarkson said she rejected the idea at first, but her then-husband Brandon Blackstock convinced her to do it.
“There’s a lot of negativity happening, a lot of division happening. One of my big things, even on tour, is to bring people together,” she explained.
She also said she wanted her show to be inclusive and do good. She told DeGeneres: “And I love that about you, so that’s why I love that I’m on before you.”
If the rumors are to be believed, Clarkson’s aspiration to emulate DeGeneres might come true even more than she originally thought.
