Kelly Clarkson reflected on the year 2020 and what she is most thankful for in an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. This year for The Voice coach has been a bit hard after filing for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock. She revealed the important advice given to her by her mother that may have contributed to this major decision.

Kelly Clarkson Just Dropped A Major Hint About The Cause Of Her Divorce

In this segment of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly played a game called “Finish The Phrase: Grateful Edition.” She was given several prompts and had to finish them. The first prompt was “I’m grateful in 2020 for my mom because…” and though Kelly said that she and her mom don’t agree on everything, they always have good conversations.

The next prompt that Kelly was given said “I’m grateful in 2020 for the lesson I learned about…” and here’s where her answers got interesting. “Even at 38, I feel like I’m always changing and progressing in a good sense, in a good way. And I always want to make sure I’m being the best version of myself.” What came next seemed to be a bit of a subliminal message thrown at Brandon and the divorce.

“My mom has been telling me since I was a kid: You are who you surround yourself with,” Kelly continued. “You want to make sure you’re surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?”

“People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time” she added. “And I think that everybody just goes, ‘Oh, well that means they’re bad.’ Well, it doesn’t necessarily mean that, it just means that you’re on different paths. And I think that that’s OK… Everybody’s on a different learning curve and everyone’s learning something different at a different time.” Kelly filed for divorce back in June and cited “irreconcilable differences.”

Kelly Is Looking Forward To 2021 Despite Having A Tough Year

Brandon served as Kelly’s manager and the pair were married for nearly seven years before calling it quits. They have two children together, six-year-old River Rose and four-year-old Remington Alexander. She was asking for joint custody of their children in the court documents.

Kelly was recently hit with a lawsuit from Brandon’s father Narvel Blackstock, owner of Starstruck Management Group for unpaid commissions. He alleges that Kelly owes them $1.4 million in unpaid commissions. These commissions are reportedly from Kelly’s earning as host of The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice. Kelly had previously maintained a close relationship with the Blackstock’s. They have managed her for 13 years so this has certainly created a more tense situation.

But even with all of this drama going on in her personal life, Kelly is still looking forward to what’s to come. “Hey, we have now realized family and friends matter so much and especially in this time 2020 has been a dumpster fire,” she said. Kelly finished the segment by saying that she is is “excited” about 2021. She also said she is grateful to have such a busy work schedule with The Voice and her talk show.
