Ellen DeGeneres has been leading her talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003 and has become a popular hit that has won several Emmy’s. But now, recent employee complaints are coming to light that paint the work environment of the show to be toxic. People are demanding that Ellen take accountability for things that have happened behind the scenes. Is she going to decide to leave the show for good?
Ellen Degeneres’ Staff Members Have Complained About Her Behavior
Earlier this week, Ellen sent a memo to her staffers after they had complained that they faced intimidation and racism behind the scenes of the show. “On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect,” the memo said. “Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show.” She went on to say that an internal investigation would be launched by Warner Bros. Television to delve deeper into the issues behind the claims. After sending out the memo, executive producer, Ed Glavin, was reportedly let go.
People felt like Ellen was placing the blame on the producers rather than herself. “Don’t think for a minute anything she has said in that apology means anything. She created and then enabled this toxic culture to go on for so long,” a staff member told the Daily Mail. “If anyone had come to her or those three vile EPs [executive producers] to complain, they would’ve been fired.” This comes after there were several reports of sexual misconduct that came from lower-level employees who allege that the top-level executives requested sexual acts be performed on them.
Will Ellen Be Walking Away From TV For Good?
It was reported that insiders at Telepictures have gotten word that Ellen is thinking about walking away from The Ellen DeGeneres Show for good. “She feels she can’t go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show,” an insider said. “The truth is she knew what was going on — it’s her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun — but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame.”
She was also recently called out by actor Brad Garett who tweeted that he knows more than one person that has been “treated horribly by her.” He went on to say that these allegations of what has gone on behind the scenes are “common knowledge.”
She has yet to announce whether or not she will be continuing with The Ellen DeGeneres Show which is currently airing its 17th season.
