Some America’s Got Talent fans took issue with judge Heidi Klum’s decision to call a contestant’s ex-wife during Tuesday night’s new episode. Singer Trent Toney told the judges that he still loved her and performed a song he wrote about her.
Heidi Klum Calls Trent Toney’s Ex-Wife on AGT
Before his performance on Tuesday’s show, Toney told the judges that he “used to be married,” and he’s still in love with his ex-wife. Klum got up on stage and used Toney’s phone to FaceTime his ex-wife, named Faith, so she could see him perform a song he wrote about her.
Toney impressed the judges and received four “yes” votes to move on in the competition. However, an update after his audition informed fans that, although Faith “enjoyed Trent’s song,” the couple is “still not together.”
After his audition, Klum approached Toney and told him, “If this works out, and you have a girl, it better be called Heidi. Okay?” But not everyone online was amused by the judge inserting herself into the couple’s business.

Fans Called the Audition ‘Emotionally Manipulating’
Although some fans were touched by the audition, others weren’t so impressed. One Twitter user wrote that it was “creepy,” while another user called it “the most manipulative thing I have seen on one of these shows.”
“Calling this guy’s ex-wife and asking how she could pass him up just because he’s good looking and wrote a song about her when we have absolutely no idea what transpired in their relationship is weird,” wrote another Twitter user.
Another viewer got straight to the point, writing, “JESUS CHRIST CAN WE NOT EMOTIONALLY MANIPULATE A LADY ON TV WHEN GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT HE DID TO GET DIVORCED.”
