‘AGT’ Recap: Heidi Klum Hits Her Golden Buzzer for an Inspiring Singer
Reading Time: 3 minutes
America’s Got Talent Season 18 returned with a new episode on Tuesday night, and judge Heidi Klum stole the show with not one but two memorable moments. First, she tried to get a divorced couple back together. Later, she hit the Golden Buzzer for an inspiring singer. The episode also featured an appearance from puppet Simon Cowell.
Heidi Klum Tries to Get Couple Back Together on AGT
Singer Trent Toney introduced himself to the judges by sharing that he “used to be married.” He said that he and his wife Faith were “immature,” and they “both made a lot of mistakes,” but he wants her back. This inspired Klum to suggest they should video call Faith during his audition.
Once they got in touch with Faith, Klum propped the phone on the judges’ desk so she could watch Trent’s performance. He sang a song he wrote about her called “Always and Lately.” Sofia Vergara called it a “perfect audition,” while Simon Cowell called Trent “very brave.”
Trent ended up earning four “yes” votes from the judges to move on. However, the performance apparently didn’t win over Faith. A message after the audition informed viewers that although she liked the song, they’re “still not together.”
However, the episode did feature one couple who’s still together — Duo Desire. The aerial gymnasts showed off a stunning routine that involved swinging from the ceiling and death-defying drops. Howie Mandel called it “one of the most impressive things I have seen in a long time.” They earned four “yes” votes.
Klum Hits Golden Buzzer for Lavender Darcangelo
At the end of the night, singer Lavender Darcangelo took the AGT stage. She shared that she’s blind and autistic, and talked about her dream of opening a school. Lavender performed “Out Here on My Own” by Irene Cara, bringing the entire audience to their feet.
Cowell called the performance “sensational,” while Mandel described it as “a dream come true.” Meanwhile, Klum told Lavender that she “just fell in love,” adding that she “would love to be your cheerleader and hold your hand all the way to the finish line.” Klum hit the Golden Buzzer for Lavender, sending her straight to the live shows. Afterward, she gifted the singer with a box of confetti from the celebratory moment on stage.
Tuesday’s episode featured a few other empowering auditions from female performers. First, 14-year-old Mariandrea took the stage with her haunting dance routine, sharing that she wants to inspire other Mexican women.
This week also featured a group of women from Japan called MOS. They played instruments such as saxophone and trumpet to the tune of “Bang Bang.” Vergara called their electrifying performance “magical.”

Simon Cowell Meets His Puppet Self
One of the weirdest acts of the night came from a group of puppets called the Cow Belles, who shared how much they love Simon Cowell. They sang “Toxic” by Britney Spears, earning a red buzzer from Vergara.
That’s when the Cow Belles welcomed a special guest to the stage — a puppet version of Cowell. He proceeded to critique the performance before launching into his own rendition of “Somebody to Love” by Queen.
Vergara still wasn’t a fan, but Cowell obviously loved it. He said it was “really funny,” calling the puppet version of him “very charismatic.” The group earned three “yes” votes to move on in the competition.
